The Tassie Fastpitch Classic will be held once again, this time the week before the Masters games on Friday October 13th to Sunday October 15th 2017. In its third year, the Classic boasts some of the richest tournament prize money in Australia. It is the only tournament of its kind in Australia, where men and women both play in the same tournament. Teams from Tasmania and the mainland converge on the Ulverstone Showground, featuring some of Australia’s best softballers, including Aussie Steelers Adam Folkard, Harry Peters, Chris Gillies, Zenon Winters Joel Goodall, Jayden Lach, Lewis Weldon, Peter Wards and James Todhunter just to name a few. It also includes a host of local men’s talent as well. The women are also well represented, featuring Australia’s best with the likes of Kaia Parnaby, Jade Wall and Sam Poole taking to the diamond again, along with local women’s players and teams. Preparations are well under way and committee organiser Matt Knowles is anticipating a few more teams and participants this year. “The first year we had four men’s teams and four women’s teams. Last year we had five and five, so this year we are hoping that word has got out about our tournament and we can increase the playing and team numbers,” he said. Entries can be made by contacting Matt through Facebook, or on the Tassie Fastpitch Classic Facebook page. This tournament is also on Softball Australia’s calendar.
