The Board, Associations and Members of Softball Tasmania join together to congratulate our President, Sheryl Burnie on being awarded the 2018 Order of Australia Medal.
Sheryl’s commitment to our game of Softball in Tasmania and at national level over 25 years makes her a very deserving recipient.
Sheryl commenced her softball career in 1992 as a player with Saints Softball Club in the Northern Tasmanian Softball Association. She went on to become A Grade and Junior coach as well as filling positions of President and Secretary. Through this time she also coached school teams.
Since very early in her softball career Sheryl has filled many positions for NTSA including President and Secretary on the Board, and Coach, Manager, Scorer, Umpire (many times 2 positions in one team) for representative teams from Juniors to Masters. Sheryl remains a tireless worker for NTSA having also managed the kiosk for many years as well as making sure other jobs were covered over the past 25 years, including local council liaison, publicity, uniforms and ground preparation.
Not happy to just sit back and work in NTSA Sheryl has coached, managed or scored for various Tasmanian state teams since 1996 and been an active member of the Softball Tasmania Board since 1999, 4 years as a board member then in 2002 Vice President stepping in to the position of President in 2003, a position she still holds.
Convenor for Australian Championships held in Launceston, current Delegate to Softball Australia (SA) Presidents meetings and member of the SA Events committee are other positions she has filled.
Sheryl continues to fill many positions at club, association, state and national level.
